Forum Title: metal door installation
We just installed a metal door and frame in the interior or a building, we are ready to fill in around frame and paint. We see that there are three holes along the side of the frame and were wondering if that is for spray in (expanding) insulation? Is it important to fill in the air space between the frame and opening for fire safety? Thank you in advance.

Steel doors are probably the least expensive, but steel dents and will rust if scratched, and/or not properly painted. Fiberglass would be my choice, but are about 1/3-1/2 more $$$. No dents, no warp, no rust, no---etc. As to brands, I like Therma-Tru, not carried by big box that I know of. Most big box brands are the bottom of the heap, but they do carry some fairly nice doors.
